A moth flew into my windscreen as I drove to work this morning. It was dark so I never noticed but when I went to my car later in the day to go home I found it there, glued to my wipers. A gorgeous rusty red and orange thing. Its insides had been pulled out but it was still alive. What could I do?

I carefully detached it and brought it home. We found out it was a herald.

I brought home

a dying moth

a herald

red and gold

I put him in a box

to die among friends

lies now between

kingfisher wings

porpoise bones

and adder skins

lies still

without light

and is beautiful
